I live in Southern California and it has been an exceptionally hot year. My apartment stays around 80 degrees on the coldest of days, so I was not looking forward to this summer.......until now! I honestly wasn't expecting much when I bought this cooler, because I had had my heart set on an air conditioner and the reviews for this product said it would not compare to an air conditioner. Today was our first really hot day since I bought the cooler with a high of 89 degrees. I had tried it out previously but the day had only been in the upper 70's, which wasn't much of a test. It had performed beautifully then, to the point where my daughter was covered up in a blanket. It not only cooled our living room but also went down the hall and cooled my daughter's room as well (and that was on the low setting). My apartment is small, about 800 square feet total. When I got home today, the temperature read 88 degrees in my apartment and it was as stuffy as could be. I gave the cooler its first test. It passed with flying colors. After about 30 minutes on low speed, my apartment was a comfortable 78 degrees, and if you laid on the couch near the cooler, it was actually cold. It doesn't cool the entire apartment. The kitchen and my bedroom stayed warm, but both rooms seemed cooler than they normally seem on a day like today. It did cool my daughter's room again, which is down the hall on the other side of the apartment. Her room was comfortable, not cold. My neighbor came in to see it, and was so impressed that she plans to buy one as well. In short, although this product does not give the same results as an air conditioner, it cools my
apartment to a comfortable temperature, and if I sit in the direct path of the air, I get cold enough for a light blanket. My only regret is that I waited this long to try one of these!
A little smaller than what I would've liked...and the capacity doesn't seem reflective of the stated capacity (5 gals. actual vs. 8 gals. stated). However, the pump has a neat feature. At initialization, it's full power (to insure media is thoroughly wetted), then, changes to half (or less) power. That means that a full reservoir lasts 10 to 12 hours.
This is the 2nd unit I've had. The first, the control panel quit working within 60 days. Honeywell (and Amazon) made it right by sending me a new unit straight away. Good customer service.
This cooler has been amazing so far. It really does cool a room even on low. It has 3 settings for low, medium and high, with an additional area for ice to cool the air even more on those hot summer days. Our dogs have been much happier since we’ve had it, and don’t seem bothered by the noise. The large tank makes it so you don’t have to refill as often as smaller tanks (obviously) and doesn’t have the mess that can come with other portable evaporative coolers.
The main draw back is it does not roll very easily, due the large tank. While it is slightly loud, overall we are happy with the purchase.
Very happy with this purchase....works great and easy to use.
If you know and understand what a swamp cooler can/can’t do then this is for you. If in a humid environment still works ok with ice feature. In dry heat or returning from working outside I stand in front of it on cool/low-medium and works great. Also, I ran this unit for 6 straight days (same settings as above)before I had to refill tank. Was also surprised that this was cheaper than some of the units with less features. It has so many uses for the family, like for bathing animals you can use the fan only feature and dried out my medium haired dog in less than 2 hours. Same with my cat that was left out in the rain. If you are expecting to cool more than 500 sq feet you should spend $2000 on a better one. Great job Honeywell!!!

Description
Like a breeze flowing across a lake, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers provide a natural, cool breeze with the power of water evaporation. Honeywell Evaporative Coolers combine 3 appliances: Evaporative air cooler, fan and humidifier - into one compact energy-saving system. A fan alone creates a breeze by recirculating warm air, but when you add water and/ice to the tank, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers reduce the temperature of incoming warm air, transforming it into a cool moist breeze. Honeywell Portable Air Coolers are built to last and carefully crafted with the science of aerodynamics to minimize energy consumption while maximizing the airflow. An evaporative air cooler offers an energy efficient cooling option when the air is hot with low humidity, such as desert areas like the southwestern United States (recommended humidity level is 60% or less for maximum efficiency). For those living in more humid cities, please consider Honeywell Portable Air Conditioners.cfm525
Despite the claims by some reviewers that this product doesn't work, it does. However if you expect it to work in that same way as an air conditioner you will be disappointed.
It took me a bit of effort to find the righ placement for the unit to maximize effeciency and find the right pump setting.
You MUST have it near a source of warm fresh air for the intake and either a window, door, or some exterior vent at the opposite end of your space. Otherwise you will not get any cooling effect and will just end up with a very humid space.
The way an evaporate cooler works is by sucking warm air in through a wet cooling pad. As the warm air passes through the pad it causes evaporation which cools the air. If the air being pulled in is not warm enough or is too humid it will not cause evaporation and therefore will not cool the air. Evaporative coolers are only effective in warm dry climates.
You also want to adjust your pump to be on the lowest effective setting meaning you want it to just wet the pad with as little return to the tank as possible. The reason being is that the cool water returning to the tank will lower the temp of the water making it slower to evaporate. So less cooling. And increased humidity.
One of the reasons I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 is that it was missing the remote. Luckily I can just control it with the buttons on the unit.
My space is a little large for the unit but as you can see from my pic it is blowing out 72 and my current outside temp is 92 with 9% humidity. I have it positioned in my garage with the garage door cracked about 1 inch
Powerful fan, it cools down the area much better than Honeywell CS10XE 300 CFM Indoor Evaporative Air Cooler that I purchased a week before. Swamp cooler only works when the humidity is low and most importantly, you must have cross ventilation. Happy with this purchase so far.

The water filling panel is very difficult to close, if you push it too hard you can hear the fan making loud noises, sounds like it's hitting something due to pressure being applied to the case. Minus one star.
I have been using this unit for a month now and am very happy with it. It moves a lot of air and cools well when the humidity is low. You need to have reasonable expectations for evaporative coolers but this one has met all of mine. It looks pretty good too.
It makes our entire12x15x7 hangout room noticeably cooler, but it's best to be in the airflow; even ten feet away it's very effective. Blows very hard. Uses a lot of water. I bring the garden hose in because it's much quicker to fill the huge reservoir. The fill door is poorly designed. It wouldn't snap closed. There's no latch. I super glued a set of four thin neodymium magnets to the top of the fill door and housing and all is copacetic. Aside from the fill door, it's a very good cooler, and seems durable.
This is a wonderful cheap way to keep cool in the summer. Works well for small bedroom or even sitting outside for a cool breeze on a hot day. This this actually makes me want to put my blanket on after being on for a short time.
You can easily pour water in the side inlet, Comes apart easily with two latches for easy cleaning on the inside. Includes a washable filter and you can adjust the water flow via the top hatch.
Uses a very small amount of electricity. Maybe 10% of a portable ac
