Perfect for my 12x14 ish room. Keeps everything nice and cool, and having the timer is great so I can put it on a while before bed, then have it turn off once its late in the evening and I'm asleep. Even the fan setting is great, showing you the temp of the room makes it really useful.

Update 09-22-17:

-My family was in dire need of a 2nd Air Conditioner that could be powered by a generator here in Central Florida due to Hurricane Irma power outage..
Amazon has the most dedicated hard working employees a company could dream of.
They delivered this unit in just 3 days, which was a life saver! THANK YOU TEAM!!

This is a well built unit from China that is 12.2 SEER due to using Puron (R410A) and a slow start-up on compressor.
-Since Puron operates at 50% more pressure than the phased out R22 Freon,
there is potential for more vibration. So, be sure to snug all external screws to keep it quiet
before installation.
- It cools a 10 X 12 ft. room very well with low electric consumption. $37 electric usage a year is the average per U.S. Energy Guide.

The picture shows the left & right side insulation panels which can be 'cut to fit' with sharp scissors or a standard utility knife/blade.

Thanks.

best unit on the market for diy solar ac. having said that, we need more 12.2 eer units at smaller btu rating for tiny homes solar applications! still very hard

So far so good. The only thing we don't like is that when you turn off the AC and turn it back on, the default setting is for "econ" mode instead of the mode you last left it on. Small complaint. Overall it's been working great and isn't too noisy but provides the right amount of ambient noise to sleep in. We use it in our baby's room which is small but it cools off within minutes.

Man does this thing does its job. I've had it for about 6-7 months now and it can cool a 11x11 room in 15 mins. Noise isn't too bad but here's a more detailed note on this..

I sleep 3 feet away from this thing due to where my window is. Even if it's on all night, I can still sleep like a baby. However, I personally do need some sort of noise when I sleep. If you're someone who needs absolute silence, then this will be a problem.

Good product :)

This is the second time I've purchased this AC. I have one in each bedroom. They are pretty quiet and work fine to cool a 12x12 bedroom. The only thing I would say is that the temperature on the panel is not accurate, you will have to run the AC a few degrees cooler than you think to feel comfortable. For example, I like the room at 70 so I run the AC at 68.

Great little AC unit for a small children's bedroom (replaced a very old unit - not efficient at all). The unit ran for a total of 7 minutes (10x12 bedroom) and pushed the room from 83 to 73 and cycled off thanks to the "energy saver" mode. This unit does a great job of reducing the total felt humidity in the room. This unit is very sleek, comes with an entire insulation package.

NOTE: When installing the left and right extendable seals, install them from the bottom and push to the top. You'll thank me - I didn't, and it was a nightmare getting the bottom clip to fit into the guide.

I have a 900 sq home and this sits in the living room window and really does a pretty great job for such a small A/C. From where it is, it cannot cool the kitchen that's always hot, but strategically placed fans help. When we had 90s to over 100 for so many days/weeks, it did surprisingly well trying to keep up. Evenings were not terribly uncomfortable. The A/C had to be run 24/7 on the coldest temp to keep up with that heat, but it did a fair job! I don't feel it's terribly loud, but others might disagree.

CONS
The constant cycling on/off annoys me when it's in the energy saving mode.
I'm concerned with the open vents at the top - I assume if it rains, it could kill the whole unit???
The back grate is VERY sharp - be so careful.

Great value. We use this to cool a 12x12 bedroom with a vaulted ceiling in the peak of summer. As long as we close the door, and start the unit 45 minutes before bedtime, it can cool the room from the mid 80s to 68 and keep it there. I'm a light sleeper, and in the default "eco" mode, the noise of the fan cycling on and off was enough to wake me up, but hitting the mode button once kept the sound level at a steady white noise. The fan speed selector uses a resistor for low speed, so it actually consumes about the same energy at either speed. I mounted this in a 21" wide casement window, and just used one of the two expanding panels to fill the narrow gap. The unit is light enough that I had no trouble installing it by myself.

This "Frigidaire FFRE0533S1 5,000 BTU 115V Window-Mounted Mini-Compact Air Conditioner with Full-Function Remote" is one of the most energy-efficient window A/C units available on the market, with a 12.1 EER rating and energy-star certified. I'll offer some detailed observations below, but this is a great choice if you're looking for a very efficient and reasonably quiet unit (moderately loud "white noise," but no off-putting whine or sharp sounds). It's low energy start also makes it one of the best choices for mobile battery/solar applications, as the unit generally draws only about 450 watts or less. (Mine is going on a houseboat.)

My unit arrived in noticeably damaged packaging (one side of the box nearly torn off), but there was no damage to the unit except a couple of very minor dents in the rear radiator fins (not uncommon, since they're so delicate) and a slight dip in the upper case as if something weighty was stacked on top of it during shipping. These were minor cosmetic issues. Everything functioned fine.

Upon plugging in the unit, I was impressed by how easily and quickly the unit responds to input from the uber-convenient remote. Press power and the LCD immediately lights up with the current setpoint temperature. The fan also starts up immediately, though it takes approximately 2-4 minutes before the compressor kicks in. Likewise, adjusting the setpoint up or down, changing the fan speed from high to low, or switching from cool to energy saver mode is instantaneous at the press of a button. And although the remote seems to be line of sight (infrared signal), I found I could point it away from the unit with my body partially in between it and the unit at close distance but still get a fairly reliable response. So for small rooms, the remote is a definite convenience that works great.

With the fan running at low, the unit emits a moderately loud "white noise" sound that is very similar to the rush of air sound from the typical A/C units in a motel. Turn it to high and the sound gets louder, but stays in the white noise range, with no distinctive or "sharp" sounds that would wake a sleeping person (assuming white noise doesn't bother you when you sleep, of course). The noise is loud enough that it would drown out whispers, but you don't need to raise your voice to any perceptible degree to be heard over it. Some people, myself included, will even appreciate that the white noise will help to drown out or smooth over sounds outside, especially if you're installing this in a boat or RV, or in a small room in the city, where there might be people or traffic noise outside. Don't expect a "whisper quiet" softness. Expect it to feel like the "rushing air" sound of a typical car A/C vent on high, but without any rattles or whines or other obnoxious sounds added in.

When the compressor kicks in, which will vary in duration and frequency based on the room temperature and setpoint, there is a very low hum that is similar to many full-size kitchen refrigerators. It is not off-puttingly loud in my opinion, but someone sleeping very near to the unit might wake up at the sound if they are a light sleeper sensitive to any change in noise. Still, I haven't come across any window unit in this range that is quieter, so it meets my expectations and is certainly not as obnoxious as many similar-sized units I've experienced.

The size and weight are very manageable, as this is one of the smallest window units you're likely to find. In spite of its small size and relatively low noise, the cool air blows out well enough that I can feel a slight breeze on my skin about six feet away, even on the lower fan setting and in energy saver mode. In fact, the vents are more effective than I expected at blowing and directing the flow of air into the room. I've seen other units that are so anemic you can barely feel even when you put your hand by the vents, so this was a pleasant surprise.

The filter for the room air intake is simple to access and clean. It simply slides out of the right side of the unit (as you face it) and back in again. No issues there that I see, though I haven't run mine long enough to get it dirty to the point of needing to be cleaned.

The cord is adequately long to reach down from a window to an outlet, but you will need the outlet to be positioned directly under or very near to the window, or else you may have to extend it.

The weight is around 40 lbs. (I haven't actually put it on a scale) and relatively easy to lift into or out of a window. Much easier than any of the larger units, as this is about as light as window units get.

The constructions seems decently durable, although not "rugged." The fins in the back are very delicate, so you must always take care (with any A/C unit) not to push on, kick, or otherwise strike that surface or you'll inevitably bend over some of the fins which reduces efficiency. The panel on the front has sealed push buttons that I've seen crack on other types of devices that use these, but perhaps these are more durable. I'm not sure, but I'll make most adjustments with the remote, so this is a non-issue for me.

All in all, this is exactly what I expected it to be. Build quality could be slightly better (I don't know why these units don't include a more robust grill on the back to protect the delicate radiator fins), but it seems up to the task and only time will tell how long it stands up to the elements and daily use. I'll be installing this on a houseboat to cool approximately 120 sq. ft. (with a lower ceiling than a typical room). I think if I insulate the space well, this will be well up to the task.

If you're looking for an efficient, small, reasonably quiet, 5000-BTU window unit with the added convenience of a remote (so you can turn it on/off and adjust it without leaving your seat or bed), this is probably the single best choice on the market, especially for its sub-$200 cost.
