I feel they are way overpriced, but I did not have any leaks. I also used Nyloc as a backup.
I have had a love hate relationship with mini splits for about 10 years now. I love them.. once I get past the hell of install. Usually every year they require more freon... no matter what you do the leaks are hell... microscopic leaks. I bought one unit a year ago and never could stop the leaks... I had to give up and put a window unit in for the summer. Its Texas... we have a limited time to get things installed. Building a new house this year and purchased 6 mini splits. Got one out of 4 installed without the leaks... the other 3... I just dreaded a repeat performance from a year ago. I have literally tried every "new special r410a" tool they make, the wondrous nylog... don't bother it's just a goopy mess, refrigerant oil, teflon tape in desperation... all to no avail. I realize someone somewhere swears they can have no leaks every time... but I seriously doubt it. You have to evacuate and wait a good hour to see the dial leak out to be SURE... REALLY SURE. None of these methods work. So what to do... I took a chance on yes... very pricey little rings to see if I could make my life better and leak free. I didn't have high hopes after all I've been through. Turns out these things are a gift from the gods and worth every penny!!! No leaks on all systems once installed. I'm now looking at that unit from a year ago about to order these flareseals for it too. If you're a do it yourselfer... dont be afraid... and dont worry about the "professionals" putting you down... mini splits are easy to install with some DIY skills... I'm a 47 year old female and have saved thousands doing things including this myself. Just make sure no matter what brand you choose to add the flareseals. You'll be glad you did.... and COOL!

The main source of leaks on a Mini-Split system is at the flare primarily due to vibration, high pressures, mis-alignment or debris on the flare surface. FlareSeal compensates for all this providing a leak free crush fitting. FlareSeal is an engineered copper gasket with a special multi-ring design on the flare surface. The entire copper base metal is coated with Loctite. The combination of a multi-ring flare seal and the coating provide an easy clip on solution that compensates for scratches in the sealing surface and other alignment imperfections between the male and female flare.
