Honeywell Indoor Portable Evaporative Cooler with Fan & Humidifier with Detachable Tank, Carbon Dust Filter & Remote Control, CS10XE

I live in eastern Colorado where our weather is typically dry and not very humid. This air cooler works great! I have it set up in my bedroom and have the window cracked. It definitely does the job. The fan is very strong and moves air very well! The water tank is easy to fill and I’ve only had to run it on low so far...but...even on low and fan only, it’s very loud. I sleep with my tv on and don’t like the quiet so it’s not an issue for me but if you need quiet to sleep, this won’t be good for a bedroom. Other than the sound, there are no issues. (Also, my remote doesn’t work but I haven’t replaced the batter to see if that’s the reason why, it’s not that big of a deal to me.)

Pros:
Lightweight
Has wheels for easy movement
Easy to install
Easy to fill
Very easy to use control options
Remote control

Cons:
Very loud fan

Works great, and other times doesnt work. Since I live in a random humidity place... sucks! But it works. Needs to be placed properly by open window and block off any open useless areas in window or doorway(which I though tit helped much better), so it has direct flow, or open door way with screen door, seems to help as well.

One good idea, I freeze a cup of water in a plastic cup, and toss out ice into tummy when I snap off the locks, just be careful not to tip over, helps. I tried modding in a new "cooler pad" from walmart, these blu pads which are way more better for this machine but was too hard to shape it, cause water would leak all over the place, its a awesome idea to use those pads since they cool better. Had to revert back to the original cardboard? block that it has. wish someone could come up with a youtube idea and mod one in, or honeywell to sell better PADDING or replaceable.

My humidity ranges from 10-50%, works at higher but feels ehh like not great air, like sweaty wet air, still need to vent through doorway like I do with security screen door. For some reason I was expecting a miracle lol, but my mistake, I didnt think this through, but its worth it i guess. The ENERGY USE at watts at low is 75+w-100, compared to my refrigerated air window con (500 and 900w). I only used this honeywell in my room pointed to the whole summer which helped a lot lol, my room temp would jump to 85F-95F,(without it) since IM not there in the day time.

Another issue I have no idea if the container water is leaking on me or what hard to say. Need to be careful that the floor is FLAT. Don't overfil, fill almost to the top max line. Usually lasts me 5-7 hours dependings on weather, I usually live it running the whole day.

Edit: to save yourself a headache, don't buy this machine or any indoor evap machines. Go to homedepot or online amazon and BUY

Important to note, it's not an air conditioner. It only works to cool when the humidity is low. That being said, I live in the central valley of CA. My daughter'sroom didn't seem to benefit too micah from our central air due to the position in our house of her room...2 exterior walls and a huge, old, single pane window. I bought this to try to cool her off a bit and am very impressed by how much it cools her room. We have to keep her door open so fresh, dry air is available to draw from, but that's not a problem. The fan without the cooling function on is very powerful and moves a lot of air. Easy to move also

I bought this for a very small room (8x8) and it works well for me. Two things to keep in mind though, and the reason why I’m not giving it a full 5 stars: it’s a little noisy. I’m using it for work and I don’t think I could sleep with it in a bedroom, but maybe that’s just me. The second thing is you absolutely will HAVE TO add ice cubes to the bucket otherwise this will be nothing more than a fan. The water alone does not work, at least for my taste. Overall I’m glad I got it as opposed to a much more expensive and energy sucking AC unit.

I bought this for my sun room. In the hottest hours of the day, it becomes an oven, even with the windows open, if there is no breeze or the breeze is warm. I put it out there today when the temperature was already 83 and climbing and it was becoming uncomfortable. When it was 93 outside, the sun room was warm but comfortable. I left all of the windows wide open. This unit won't create a suction and I don't think it could cool the room if the windows were closed and the sun were heating them but it works fine if you have it near where you are going to hang out in a small space. I also have a normal fan out there and I think that helped keep cooler air swishing around. It isn't icy cold coming out but its enough to give nearby objects some relief from the heat and, like I said, it prevented the sun room from becoming an oven. For a small unit, it works pretty well but, like I said, it needs more ventilation than the big units. I took off a star because the remote control only worked once and then died. I'll get a new battery and see if that fixes it but its possible that I got a crummy remote. Its very easy to fill because it has a drawer in the back and you just slide it out and pour the water in the tank below. It runs into the lower tank like a waterfall and you can watch the meter on the side to make sure you don't overfill it. The tank is removable but only needs removed for maintenance. The filters can be removed for cleaning as well. It has wheels on it and moves around very nicely on my tile floor but I don't know how well the small front wheels would roll on a deeper carpet. It takes about five pitchers of water to fill it and, because its so dry out here, that only lasted for a few hours. Too fight off the heat, I'll have to start it up before the heat sets in and probably have to fill it again after the heat sets in to keep it running through the hottest part of the day. But its small, portable and never blows out hot air and has an alarm to tell me when I need to add water, so I'm happy...other than the flaky remote control.

Description

Like a breeze flowing across a lake, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers provide a natural, cool breeze with the power of water evaporation. Honeywell Evaporative Coolers combine 3 appliances: Evaporative air cooler, fan and humidifier - into one compact energy-saving system. A fan alone creates a breeze by recirculating warm air, but when you add water and/ice to the tank, Honeywell Evaporative Coolers reduce the temperature of incoming warm air, transforming it into a cool moist breeze. Honeywell Portable Air Coolers are built to last and carefully crafted with the science of aerodynamics to minimize energy consumption while maximizing the airflow. An evaporative air cooler offers an energy efficient cooling option when the air is hot with low humidity, such as desert areas like the southwestern United States (recommended humidity level is 60% or less for maximum efficiency). For those living in more humid cities, please consider Honeywell Portable Air Conditioners.cfm300

About as loud as a portable AC unit would be of similar size but with a water trickle noise going on. Keeps my room just a few degrees cooler with a nice strong breeze. A gallon of water last me half day, but even when not in "Cool" mode it makes a really good powerful fan - which requires no water.

I am about to buy our seventh Honeywell Indoor "Swamp Cooler". We live in a very dry climate up in the mountains of Southern California and these babies can cool a room down and keep you comfortable day and night. We have a huge three story house with three air conditioning units and three generations living here, and our electricity bills can be astronomical during the summer. So this is our solution. As others have stated--this is not an air conditioning unit, it cools the air using water in a well and a fan, but will not make it "frosty", but definitely make an eight to ten degree difference. You can't back it up to a wall, as it needs to pull in air from the back. I am very sensitive to heat--I melt in heat, and this makes such a difference in the rooms we use them in and adds a bit of humidity to boot (which we need). We are replacing our room fans with these, as they cost the same to run, but just don't move air around--they cool the air and move it around. Simple, cheap (cost as opposed to high electricity bills) and brilliant.

I live in a dry climate in a bedroom I rent from my friend. At the beginning of the year when we turned on the house swamp cooler we discovered that the pump no longer worked. I then purchased a small desktop swamp cooler that said it would cool an area of about four feet, it really only cooled an area of about six inches in front of it and I was disappointed. So I decided to purchase this Honeywell unit and have been overall very happy with it.

When it first arrived in the late afternoon the current temperature in my bedroom was about 96 degrees, in about an hour it took the temp down 6 degrees to 90. On my day off I turned it on in the morning before it got hot, it got to 96 degrees again that day in the rest of the house but my room was 88 degrees, still warm but eight degrees cooler than the rest of the house. When we got the house swamp cooler working again this would still work to boost the cooling effect in my bedroom, the house swamp cooler would do most of the work but this unit would still bring the temp down in my room an additional three to five degrees, from about 85 degrees to about 80 ~ 82 degrees on a hot dry day in the upper 90's.

It's important to remember an evaporative cooler like this will only work well in a dry climate like the southwestern U.S., because the humidity in the air needs to evaporate to cool the air. And if you live in a dry climate it's also a bonus that this fan also humidifies the air. If you live in a humid climate then all this is is an expensive fan because the moisture in the air won't evaporate.

You need to keep a window open while using this unit because you need proper ventilation for the moisture in the air to evaporate and cool, otherwise it just makes the air in your room very humid. It works best in your room if you have air flow flowing into your room and out the window and this sits in the middle of your room cooling the air passing through your room.

Fill it up and it lasts for several hours. I set the timer so it turns off automatically in the middle of the night. Never had a problem with leaks.

I happily used this unit for the summer months this year and it performed above my expectations. Even with some pretty humid nights (>80%), I still felt like I benefited from the evaporative cooling. It also worked great during the day when the humidity was much lower. I live in southern California, and this was the only type of cooling I needed for the summer. The fan is also very powerful, even without the evaporative cooling turned on.

Maintenance has been pretty low. I change the water and rinse out the tub once a week. Have had no issues to speak of. The remote is simple, and it works fine. I only wish the power cord was a little longer. I hope to use this for many more years!

Used this swamp cooler all summer and loved it. It cranks out a lot of cold air and the tank reservoir lasts fairly well. I found on really hot days I'd refill the water tank once a day or so. Please keep in mind this is an evaporative cooler .. if you live in a region with a higher humidity, it will not work for you. Living in southern Colorado, this works perfectly for me!
