I purchased this unit as an upgrade from my small window air conditioner. This one is excellent. I have it in my bedroom window and it puts out so much cool air, it cools the living room also. My house is 1,000 square feet and after installing this last week, I haven't had to turn on the evaporative cooler. Our summer temps average in the 90's and the house doesn't have good insulation so it can get pretty warm inside. Not any more!. It is installed in a side sliding window. Look on YouTube for instructions. Very Very pleased with this purchase!
I bought this because my downstairs central unit had a gone out. Money wasn't feasible to get it fixed this year. Upstairs unit was working overtime to keep up and just couldn't. I live in a 2 bedroom townhouse with a loft 1301 SF. the downstairs are open to the second floor ceiling 16'. I really didn't expect much, but crossed my fingers. WOW! This thing beats my old 3 ton central unit it is replacing. Doesn't run continuously, cycles on and off every so often, upstairs unit doesn't run half as much and less than it ever has.I have had it going the last 3 weeks in Dallas heat, high 90s to 105. This thing just purrs away, doesn't act over worked, cycles, cools amazingly well. Checked my usage on TXU website, shows I am using 15% less electricity a day from what I did last year when we weren't miserably hot like this year. To top it off I am keeping downstairs 2 degrees cooler, because I can! I love this thing!
I bought this unit in February 2016 to keep my workshop cool. It worked great until June 2018. The air conditioner started to freeze up and not cool as good was it once did. Since I had bought the square trade warranty, I got a reimbursement and was able to buy another air conditioner. I bought this same unit and another square trade warranty. BUY THE WARRANTY!!
Having never heard of this brand, I was initially against making the purchase, but, decided to take a chance. I am glad I did. It works beautifully. I would prefer not to have the power saver turn on every time the AC is turned on, but, I think I can live with that inconvenience. Our bedroom is on the top floor of an old 'raised ranch'. It is the hottest room in the house, at a size of 15' x 25'. Within minutes of turning the unit on, the room is noticeably cooler, even with the hot sun.
Great window unit. Cools my entire railroad one bedroom apartment. It is noisy (not terribly) but a lot less than other brands I have compared. The remote is great and you can connect your Logitech Harmony remote to it for easy access.

I bought this unit to replace a lower BTU unit in my living room/dining room area which is probably around 800 square feet. Because my home has no central air and my windows are only 24" wide, it was important for me to get the strongest unit that would fit the window as I'm not a fan of indoor A/C units. SPT is a relatively unknown brand and also priced above the competition. However, because the competition has always failed me, I chose to give this brand a chance.
In regards to the functionality of the unit, the air is ICE-COLD. I love it! It functions super quiet and vibration is minimal. A ton better than the competition. It is quite heavy so you may need assistance. And even though it's only recommended for 450-550 square feet, it has done a great job cooling 800 with an additional fan to help circulate the air. I will add that the panel looks outdated (white on Beige/Tan gives it an old look) and like most A/C units, the directional louvers meant to direct air are terrible. The air still blows straight for the most part with maybe an inch improvement with the louver. A lot of air hits my couch that sits half below the vent a foot away.
I'm only deducting 1 star because the first unit that arrived did not function. It arrived in perfect physical condition but a leak was apparent as it was covered in greasy oily substance. I tested the unit and the compressor could not cool. I called SPT and they were happy to replace the unit but the process took a few weeks. I managed to keep the house cool by keeping two bedroom units running so this did cost me more money and time than I anticipated. Customer service was "okay" but there was clear miscommunication at certain points.
Overall, I'm happy I have a working unit and feel that it will last longer than the competition due to it's smooth operation.
Bought this to replace an 8000 BTU unit in the living room of my apartment in NYC. Anyone who lives here can tell you summer here is disgusting and people tend to gather in my apartment quite often as my family loves to visit. If it was just me, the 8000 would have kept me cold and requiring a blanket. This however, made an living room of 10 people want it turned off or lowered for a while! It may sound like an exaggeration but when this thing gets going, it gets going!
I installed this through the wall (siding, wall was about 6" thick, looks like it could go through about 8" or so). Everything is as I expected. Cools our whole 1k sq ft upstairs with 2 other fans on circulating the cool air. Power bill seems to have dropped. Good investment. plugs into standard receptacle. Easy to clean the filter. Cover in the winter and no other maintenance from what I can tell. Doesn't look too bad.
have been looking for an upgrade for my 10k BTU for a long time for my trailer. saw this listed on amazon, and after looking at others for more money, i decided on this model. not installed in a window. I opted for a wall sleeve installation to protect the unit from exterior weather conditions.
Pros.
1.increased cooling from my previous model.
2 good looking display, and overall workmanship.
3 latest and greatest in energy star rating, and overall efficiency.
Cons.
1. fan is a bit on the loud side. especially on high setting. this is an issue with a lot of users. for me, not so. it seems a small price to pay for staying cool this time of year. and i can leave my trailer knowing my dogs are in a climate controlled space.
overall i definitely recommend this product. at the end of the day, is works as advertised.
After dealing with another brand that kept overheating and cutting out in NYC summers, I looked for the quietest, most reliable, reasonably priced model. This one won. That was in 2015. It still works just as it did the first year. Cools very quickly, even on low, and has never cut out. Note: I brought it in every winter, which might have something to do with its longevity.
