This fan is just as nice as one I paid much more for. It was easy to assemble. The base snaps together with easy-to-follow markings to make assembly effortless and uncomplicated. You can use either a small flat-head or medium Phillips-head screwdriver (10 screws in all, eight provided separately plus two already installed in the housing that need to be adjusted for holding the cord in place). It probably took me less than 5 minutes to have it up and running. Two AAA batteries are required for the remote control, and these ARE NOT included. The fan has a number of settings, including three fan speeds, oscillating versus fixed, a timer, and settings that cause the fan to cycle through the speeds. This last one is not terribly useful that I can tell, but others may feel differently. All in all, the fan is pretty quiet, takes up very little space, and provides good air flow. I'm very happy with my purchase.
We love to sit outside after dinner but between the heat, humidity and the state bird of Texas (the mosquito) it isn’t comfortable and we end up coming in sooner than we want to. Our deck isn’t wired for a ceiling fan so I ordered the Holmes 36 Inch Oscillating Tower Fan with Remote Control by Holmes to circulate the air and blow away mosquitoes. The fan is a slim style and is very quiet to use. The controls are mounted on the top for ease in operating. There are LED lights in the control panel and the fan has three speed settings. I got it in the white which after some thought may not have been the best choice for outdoors. When looking for fans this one caught my eye as the best price for the features it offered and I liked the remote control aspect. Have not yet gotten around to using the remote yet. I carefully read all the reviews and I was a little hesitant that it would fall apart like some people mentioned. However, it was super easy to put together (you’ll need 2 different types of screw drivers) and I built it within 15 min while watching tv. And I’m normally not very confident in putting things together, but the assembly instructions were very clear. The one problem is that the fan noise (no matter what setting I have it on or speed or if it is oscillating back and forth) is never consistent. It will randomly get louder than quieter and fluctuate randomly. After a while you get used to it and it’s almost like wind outside whooshing. But if you are looking for a steady white noise this is not the best fan for that. Overall, I’m happy with it and it definitely cools down the room!
Make sure you tighten the screws on the bottom all the way otherwise the fan "stutters" on the oscillating function. Whenever mine stutters, I just give the screws a quick tighten. Works great in the california summer heat. I use the 1 & 2 power settings most often -- 1 during the day for a breeze and 2 at night for a breeze & white noise. Love the remote function. Buttons require more than slight force for a respond, so press firmly. Assembly was quick and easy with simple instructions.
I love this fan! Keeps my room cool and the air flowing, which is helpful in an old house with no ventilation. It doesn't take up much space and is easy to assemble--took less than 10 minutes and just a screwdriver. I don't find that it's too loud even on the 3rd speed for when I'm sleeping or trying to get work done with little distraction. I originally was excited for the "sleep" setting as I thought it would be nice to have the fan move through different speeds gradually. Unfortunately, the fan speeds are so different that it doesn't really gradually flow from speed to speed. There is a loud, noticeable difference between each speed. I keep it on a single speed most nights instead. The remote takes two AAA batteries and works from quite a distance, even without pointing it at the fan. The buttons are big and easy to memorize so you can grab the remote in the middle of the night and change the settings. The timer is quite a nice function, too. Overall, a great product and totally worth the money! I've used it every night since I got it. Hopefully it holds up!

This is a powerful fan. It's quite tall though the entire unit is rather compact for such a powerful fan. It has a rather good range of motion for the oscillating setting and the breeze reaches quite far. I had this set up in my studio apartment about 6 feet from my bed and I could feel the breeze. The remote control function is wonderful and works very well. The Timer settings are also very helpful. The "breeze" setting is a little odd because it blows air and then goes absolutely dormant. It didn't feel so much like a breeze as much as the fan dying. The low setting is still quite powerful and the high setting is gale force winds. I was in a west-facing apartment, so this was great for me. However, if you want a slightly gentler fan, this may not be the one for you. It also makes a considerable amount of noise at night- a humming and blowing noise and not a shaking or rattling noise. So if you're looking for a quiet fan, this may also not be the one you should get as it is rather loud.
Living in Arizona, our summer A/C bill gets pretty high. I've discovered that I can bump up the temperature at night a few degrees and have this fan blowing on me and be very comfortable. I've also used it to help cool down my west-facing kitchen in the afternoons. It's pretty quiet, with just enough white noise that it covers any annoying creaks at night. It also helps my husband sleep better in the mornings as the white noise muffles the sound of me getting ready for work early. I don't often use the oscillating feature. I prefer it to just blow directly on me. When I do use the oscillator, however, it is quiet. No more creaky fans as they sweep back and forth!
I've had this fan a few months now and it has been a life safer. This has been a particularly hot summer, so I've been very glad to have a high quality fan to help cool me down and extend the reach of my AC unit. The telescoping is really great and very quiet in my opinion. Every now and then I hear some very quiet clicks, but it normally resolves itself. I don't find that I use the different air-modes, such as pulsing, nor do I really set a timer. It's so low on power usage that I just leave it running if I'm very hot.
It works pretty well, and putting it together is pretty straight forward.. I probably have it running somewhere around 50-60 hours a week since I bought it 5 months ago. Lately it sounds like something is going out inside of it though. Almost like something is getting hit by one of the fans inside. Before this I was surprised at how quiet it is with how much air it moves. The remote works okay as well. I've only tested it out to about 10 feet, and sometimes I'll have to push a button a couple times before it takes.
Overall, for a relatively inexpensive fan, I'm pretty happy with it. Hoping the increase in noise isn't a sign of something bad to come though.
I've had this for 3 and a half years, used almost every night, for 8 hours. It's beginning to make noises, but for being used so much, and for $40, this was a great purchase.
It's strong enough to cool you, but when the temperature gets to above 90 degrees, even the third setting isn't enough. But again, it's $40.
I like to have white noise while I sleep, and this has done well for me. The remote batteries are still working to this day, but I rarely use it.
