I keep it in my bedroom. It puts cool moisture in the air and the soothing sound puts me right to sleep
I work in a studio with several computers right next to my chair. They give off quite a bit of heat! I've tried a couple of personal fans that work fairly well, but this Evapolar evaCHILL Personal Evaporative Air Cooler and Humidifier Portable Air Conditioner Fan works much better than the fans. I had never heard of a "swamp cooler" before, but that is what the evaCHILL is based on - it is a concept that Benjamin Franklin came up with and the theory has been proven to work.
By putting water in a reservoir that is soaked up into a paper filter and the air is blown through the filter and as it evaporates, it cools the air and you end up with a cooling effect in addition to the air blowing over you and cooling you off. It is pretty typical to be able to cool down to 72 degrees with this method.
I haven't put a temp gauge on the output yet, but holding my hand up next to the regular fan and this evaporative fan, you can feel the much colder air coming from the evaCHILL. It truly works!
So, the pros and cons...
The main pro is that it works. I am MUCH cooler with the evaCHILL sitting next to me.
The cons are the price, that you have to fill it regularly, which is not always easy or convenient. Filling it with water isn't terribly difficult, but it is inconvenient to have to refill the water regularly. It hold 800 ml of water, which is a fair amount. Over 24 ounces.
Also, it came with a TON of dust on the filter, probably paper dust from the filter itself. Once it soaks up the water, that is pretty much no longer a problem.
And it gets a little noisy at higher fan speeds. Someone said that it didn't blow very hard, and I had to wonder if they were using it right? If you press the button several times, it will actually get pretty high speed and blow the air pretty fast.
This isn't perfect, but it works and really cools your personal space down - especially if you have a computer near you that is heating your space. I would recommend it pretty solidly to someone who needs to cool their space down aggressively - other than the price. There are some others out there that are cheaper with good ratings, so you might look at them. But if you want a personal space air cooler that definitely works - this is a winner! I have several co-workers ordering the same thing because it works so well for me and they want that same cooling at their desk as well.
I hope you find this to be a helpful review. If there is anything more you would like to know, please ask. I try to check my reviews for comments and respond to them right away. If you ask something and I don't get back quickly, please check my profile page and email me and I will try to respond as soon as I see it. I think it is important for fellow shoppers on Amazon to look out for one another by letting each other know if a product is good, or if it is a stinker. I take reviewing very seriously and try to be helpful. Thank you!
This fan is unique. It has a very "minimal" fee to it and looks great in any room. For power, it plugs into a USB port. I find the best place for it is in a small room or area.
PROS
The unit is easy to set up. There is a water tank in the back that fills up easily and quickly. The water tank takes 3 cups of water is a great feature that cools my room fast. At first, I was worried about putting water into it, but it doesn't leak, and the water cools the room nicely! It is quiet, but on the highest fan speed, it has a big sound. It takes up a bit of real estate on your desk, but it is so lovely and great looking, and "doesn't look like a fan" so in the right place it is beautiful.
CONS
PRICEY. At the time of my review, I felt this was a bit pricey for a fan. I think what you are paying for is how it looks. It is unique and charming, and that is where the value lies. As a fan, it works great.
This is a review for the Evapolar evaCHILL New Personal Evaporative Air Cooler and Humidifier/Portable Air Conditioner and Fan.
I have a few evaporative air coolers similar to this one, only bigger. it’s important to know what they can and cannot do.
On the plus side, this one is super easy to set up. There’s a short instruction booklet and the part that is in English is one full page and that’s all you’ll need; it’s pretty intuitive except for being told that the tank holds 800ml or 3.4 cups.
The unit itself feels sturdy enough even though it’s plastic - my other air coolers are the same. It is also lightweight until you put the water in it.
It is very quiet which is a huge plus; perfect next to your bed at night.
The air flow obviously, for something this size, isn’t going to be enough to reach any large space; but it is good enough for a desktop or an end-table next to you.
The thing to understand about these evaporative coolers, is that most of them, including this one, don’t really put out “cold” air as much as cool air - if they are aimed right at you it’s nice. However, they are also humidifiers so factor that into whether or not you want this. Even though humidity is generally good for you, a lot of people don’t like it when it’s hot.
For what it does, it’s nice. I do wish that you could put ice in the tank along with the water like I can do with some of my other coolers; that really helps keep the air flow colder.
Still, this is nice, just beware it’s not going to really keep you cool and dry in really hot weather, but it helps and is better than a plain old fan.
This looks and works great at cooling small area while humidifying which is great for desert. We had tried an earlier model which we thought was great in concept but did not function well. They figure out all the issues and this new model works great. I'm so glad we tried it again. The cord plugs into your pc usb slot but we used an electrical outlet adapter with no issue.

I would not expect it to cool a whole room much but if pointed right at you a modest fan speed generates some cool air and turning up the fan so you can feel it the air seems quite a bit cooler. It got up to 90 degrees today and the device made things bearable at my desk.
At first I almost returned this becasue the highest setting wouldn't stay on long--the fan would start cycling in little controlled bursts, i thought it was the oddest thing. Turns out. I was just using a low powered USB plug meant for charging headphones or whatnot. I grabbed a Samsung "faster charging power" charger i had lying around and the unit worked perfectly.
I have this sitting on our dresser top and I aim in at the foot of our bed. I can feel it hit my face about 7 / 8 feet away. The thing gets very cold to where I'll have to turn it off in the middle of the night. It gets hot in our apartment and our AC doesn't make it back to the back bedroom whatsoever. I start tossing and turning from being a few degrees over-heated. I like to be cold to sleep, and I cannot sleep without at least a sheet. I have to have something covering me. So, I aim this thing at my feet, pop a foot out of the sheets when I get too hot, and i'm content as can be. Have tried it at about 77 degrees in the bedroom and this caused me to have to pull actual blankets on--perfect!
Great product to cool my bedroom just a little more! Works well!
As someone who lives in hot and sunny Arizona, I am no stranger to a swamp cooler! ;-) However, this is really a wonderful machine, especially if you work at a computer (for prolonged hours) and wished that you had a nearby fan (with cooling ability) to keep one comfortable during the summer months.
Here's what is good about this product:
- Small size and compact! (I have to admit that I was worried that this was going to be one of those "bulky" machines that would consume half of my desktop space. Luckily, it's quite small and fits nicely positioned next to a laptop!
- Light weight and it doesn't spill water everywhere... Nor does it create condensation leaks on my desk, which is appreciated.
- The power button has five levels to it, ranging from ... a gentle breeze ... to a decent fan. I'd say it's best cooling area is about up to 3 feet in front of it. I wouldn't call this an air conditioner per se, but it's more like a nice fan with coolant abilities. However, if you're not positioned directly in front of this, you might be disappointed.
- The filter helps to clean the air of dust particles. However, this also means that you'll eventually need to buy a replacement air filter, which can be a bit on the pricey side at times.
What is not good, in my opinion:
- I found it a bit challenging to fill up the machine. Later, I finally discovered that the top removes off and that there is a funnel included, which is designed to help you to fill it without spillage.
- The machine seems to be quite thirsty! In about an hour, over half of its water tank was consumed.
- Air filter replacements need to be purchased to keep the air flow working correctly.
- I didn't really notice any observable difference in temperature in a small, bedroom work area.
- It works off of a computer USB port, but I was thinking that it might work off of a USB charger as well. Nope, it turns out that it really does need to be a PC or Mac USB port in order to run.
Overall, if you're looking for a small fan with coolant abilities that's great for working at a computer desk, this is a really nice option. If you're expecting this to cool off an average-sized bedroom, you'll most likely be disappointed. Remember, swamp coolers tend to work best as long as you live in a dry environment.
When I saw the words "portable air conditioner", I had to have it. Summertime in Texas is no joke. And, when you go camping or RV-ing too, then staying cool becomes a more major consideration. Gotta say that this small portable air-conditioner (it's really an evaporative air cooler) does work as it's supposed to. When I add water to its reservoir, it's set for use (pics 01-02). Its side plastic is semi-transparent so I can see the amount of water it contains. At full capacity, the air-cooler will work for about 3-5 hours. When the water is emptied, it will still continue working but only like a regular fan. It comes with a USB cable you can connect it to for power like a laptop. I opted to use a portable power bank so I can use it outdoors. And it works! It has 1 button to adjust the fan/cooling speed and the light (see pic 03). Since it's still Spring & we don't have our 100-degree weather yet, the air blows quite cool. Will wait & see how well (i.e., cool) this works come summertime.
Hugely recommended.
